End of Year School Visits June 25 and 28 2021

Parents received communication from St. Agnes Church regarding First Communion and Confirmation being postponed to the fall. Please contact the church with any questions you may have.

We will be celebrating our “Great Eights” on Thursday, June 24th. They have worked so hard this year and demonstrated such resilience. Congratulations on your graduation, Grade 8s!

Parents, please continue to report absences up to Thursday, June 24th by calling the office if your child is going to be missing school. Thank you!

For a while now, there have been plans to install a new bike rack by the Primary wing, a scooter rack by the front of the school and a buddy bench close to the creative play structure. All three items are on school property, waiting to be installed. The installation date will be determined by our Facilities Services Department. Hopefully, students will be able to use these new items in September!

We are excited to announce that St. Luke CES students and staff earned a GOLD certification this year due to our commitment to environmental learning and action. Way to go, Lightning! We are proud of this achievement, especially during such a challenging year. A huge shoutout to Mrs. Poulopoulos for her ongoing leadership and dedication to this important initiative.

We wish all of our St. Luke CES dads a very happy Father’s Day on Sunday, June 20th!

Students will be celebrating a year-end liturgy within their virtual classes on June 23rd or 24th. We will miss our traditional year-end mass, but we are all hopeful for in-person, whole-school gatherings in the new school year.

We bid farewell to the following staff members: Patrice Orsini, Lisa Wollziefer, Caitlin Mogk, and Miguel Grande. Thank you for your dedication to our students at St. Luke CES this year! We will miss you! Other staffing changes will be announced in September.

Administrator Changes at St. Luke CES

Dear St. Luke CES families:

With mixed emotions, I am writing to share that I will be the principal of John Sweeney CES effective September 2021. Ms. Rosemary Kavanagh will be the incoming principal at St. Luke CES. She is currently vice-principal at St. Kateri CES.

My time at St. Luke CES has been quite the ride! This global pandemic has tested all of us. As we return, hopefully, to a more normal way of doing things in the fall, we will need time to heal and rebuild but we will also need to celebrate the new skills and strengths we have found in ourselves during this most challenging time in our lives. I was so excited to be part of this rebuilding and celebrating for our school community but, sadly for me, that will not be possible.

I will take with me incredibly fond memories of my time at St. Luke CES. I have had the privilege of working with exceptional staff. I am truly in awe of what they have done to reinvent their jobs and to meet the needs of our students during this time of unpredictability and upheaval. I have learned so much from working with them and will miss them dearly. I will miss the partnership with Father Aleks Mazur at St. Agnes Church. Our school is so blessed to have him to guide our students, staff and families on our spiritual journey. I will miss the support of our parent community and the relationships I have formed through our Catholic School Advisory Council and other home-school connections. Our staff truly feel that we are in a partnership with you and that is one of the greatest strengths of our school. Most of all, I will miss our incredible students. They are my “raison d’être”. It has been a gift to be part of their lives for five years and to see them develop before my eyes. Each student is special to me and holds a place in my heart.

We still have a couple of weeks of school left and there will be some important information to share regarding year-end procedures, so I will be in touch again next week. I will also work closely with Ms. Kavanagh to ensure a smooth transition for our school community. Thank you, St. Luke CES families, for five great years and the memories that came with them. It has been an honour to serve this school community as your principal and I am beyond grateful for the experience.

God bless,

Kendra Duench
