Career Day

Dear parents:

During the afternoon on Wednesday, January 29th, we are planning to host a Career Day for our students. The set-up will be “science fair” style, where students will be able to walk through the gym and speak to the guests whose careers are of interest to them. We need several guests to help us make our day a success. Some of the careers the Intermediate students have shown an interest in are:

doctor

lawyer

police officer

artist

scientist

designer (clothing, interior design, graphic)

firefighter

chef

author

millwright

realtor

vet

musician

electrician

engineer

psychologist

nurse

hypnotist

personal trainer

astronaut

software engineer

google employee

software sales

film industry rep

hair and makeup artist

We are open to other careers, too. If you are willing to help us out with this special event, please email Mr. Beesley at James.Beesley@wcdsb.ca.

Thank you for your consideration!

WCDSB Schools NOT Affected by OSSTF Job Action

The potential one day strike announced by the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation (OSSTF) will not affect WCDSB elementary and secondary schools. Our schools will be open as usual on Wednesday and running on a normal schedule.

Christmas Concert Reminder

St. Luke CES is proud to present our annual Christmas concert for parents and guests on Tuesday, December 17. The show will begin at approximately 12:15 p.m. in our school gymnasium and will be around one hour in length. We will post the running order of the performances outside the gymnasium on the day of the concert and doors will open at 12 p.m. To show your support for all of the performers and to avoid disruptions during the show, we ask that you make every effort to stay for the duration of the concert. Our students are so excited to share the Christmas spirit with you tomorrow!

Christmas Message from Crossing Guard Dave

To: The Students, Parents, Teachers and Staff at Lester B Pearson & St. Luke’s Schools

From: Dave (crossing guard at LBP)

For the last several years I have been met each day with warm smiles and high fives.  It always makes my day.  At Christmas time and the end of the school year I am overwhelmed by the gifts and cards that I have received.  Your generosity goes beyond words.  Since we are not allowed to give anything to the children, I have made a donation to Kids Ability in the name of the students of both schools.

Again, I thank you very much and have a safe and happy holiday.

Food Drive

Dear Families of the St. Luke Community,

The WE DAY TEAM needs your help.

From now to December 16 our school will be participating in a food drive with all items donated going to help the Food Bank of Waterloo Region.

We are looking for any non-perishable food items such as baby formula, diapers, canned foods (e.g., fruit, chili, soup, beans), peanut butter, hygiene products (e.g, toothpaste, shampoo, etc.).

We thank you for your support by making St. Luke a caring community so those who need our help can move forward with their lives.

Sincerely,

The WE DAY TEAM

Message re Tomorrow’s OSSTF Strike

As you may have heard, the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation (OSSTF) has announced plans for a one-day strike on Wednesday, December 4, 2019.

OSSTF does not represent any staff working in our elementary and secondary schools, therefore all Waterloo Catholic District School Board elementary and secondary schools will be open and running on their normal schedules tomorrow.

WCDSB teaching staff are represented by the Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association (OECTA), and negotiations with the province are still on-going. We are hopeful the two sides will reach a fair and respectful collective agreement.

However, OSSTF does represent some staff working at our St. Louis Adult Learning and Continuing Education Centres, and the one day strike will result in the following programs and services being CLOSED on December 4:

  • English as a Second Language (ESL) classes at all campuses.
  • Language Instruction for New Canadians (LINC) classes at all campuses.
  • Literacy Basic Skills (LBS) classes – also known as CorE classes – at all campuses.
  • Spots for Tots childcare and LINC Childminding sites at both the both the Downtown Kitchener Main Campus and the Highland Road campus.

PLEASE NOTE: All other St. Louis programs will be running on normal schedules.
